SEIU’s Conroy: Federal workers won a working majority in the House to restore their rights – the Senate must follow suit

WASHINGTON, D.C. – “Federal workers from every corner of the country keep our government running — from caring for veterans to supporting public health, the environment and education for every child.

The President put the interests of the wealthy and well-connected above the people who serve our country, many of whom are veterans themselves. In March, he stripped hundreds of thousands of federal workers of their collective bargaining rights, and cut workers out of decisions that affect all of us. This is all while they tried to vilify federal workers and gutted the Department of Education, even as they gave billionaires the keys to our government and access to our personal data. They tried to silence unions that spoke out against what was going on, erasing workers’ protections against illegal firings and discrimination.

But federal workers did not back down. They organized and built a working majority in the House to pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act, even without the Speaker’s permission. The Senate must now follow suit to restore federal workers’ rights and vital services for all Americans. If federal workers are not protected, none of us are.”
