Dangerous Trump, Heck education records linked in new television ad aimed at Latinos in Nevada

SEIU/iAmerica Action’s $1 million Senate race ad campaign picks up with first TV spot, complemented by ra

LAS VEGAS — When it comes to education, Donald Trump and Joe Heck are downright dangerous for Latinos in Nevada who are trying to get ahead. A new television ad ties together Heck, the Republican candidate for Senate, and Trump, who wants to shut down the Department of Education.

The Spanish-language television spot, which begins running today in the Las Vegas and Reno markets, is the first Silver State TV ad from SEIU/iAmerica Action this fall. It is being complemented in both markets by a radio ad on the same topic: education. The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), standing with Latino workers and families, says the spots are part of a $1 million television and radio campaign that will continue into October.

The Senate race is tight and is a presidential battleground state — and SEIU/iAmerica Action and partners are on the ground and on the airwaves to tip the balance for Catherine Cortez Masto and Hillary Clinton.

“The TV ad shows a trash can, and that’s exactly where Donald Trump’s and Joe Heck’s ideas on education belong: the garbage,” said Rocio Sáenz, an international executive vice president at SEIU.

“Joe Heck votó en Washington para recortar las becas Pell, una ayuda esencial para 35,000 estudiantes universitarios. Se opuso a un plan para incrementar el financiamiento de nuestras escuelas. Trump quiere cerrar el Departamento de Educación, eliminando las Becas Pell y muchas otras,” the ad explains: “Joe Heck voted in Washington to CUT Pell Grants, essential assistance for 35,000 college students. He opposed a plan to increase funding for our schools. Trump wants to shut down the Department of Education, eliminating Pell Grants and many others.” (See the full Spanish transcript and English translation below.)

“Just as Nevadans are learning how Donald Trump and Joe Heck think alike on immigration and other issues, it’s time voters know where Joe Heck and Donald Trump really stand on education,” Sáenz said. “Latino voters have the power to stop Trump and Heck by electing champions in Hillary Clinton and Catherine Cortez Masto.”
