Jared Reece serves as a Co-President of the International SEIU Lavender Caucus, Co-President of the SEIU Western Region Lavender Caucus, and the Chair of SEIU Local 1000’s Lavender Committee. A committed and outspoken LGBTQIA+ labor advocate, Jared works to strengthen union power, expand equity for queer and trans workers, and build stronger connections between local, regional, and international SEIU structures. He also represents workers as a delegate to the Sacramento Central Labor Council and is an active member of AFL-CIO’s Pride at Work.
Professionally, Jared is a Senior Programmer for the California State Controller’s Office, where he brings a strong commitment to public service, transparency, and efficient government operations. He has a deep passion for fiscal accountability, both as a taxpayer and as a firm supporter of responsible, worker-centered governance. He incorporates this focus into his programming and system-development work.
As a California State Worker for nearly a decade, Jared has contributed to a wide range of efforts supporting working-class members. Within SEIU Local 1000, he previously served in several key leadership roles, including:
- President of District Labor Council 784
- Vice President / Chief Steward of District 784
- District Bargaining Representative for Unit 1
- Sergeant-at-Arms for Board of Directors
- Member of the Statewide Chief Stewards Committee for two terms
Jared also helped found Local 1000’s Information Technology Apprenticeship Program and later supported the development of the Cybersecurity Apprenticeship cohort, expanding access to career pathways for state workers pursuing technology-focused roles.
Today, Jared’s priorities include strengthening regional LGBTQIA+ labor networks, ensuring equitable support for identity-based caucuses, expanding the visibility of queer and trans worker issues across the Western United States, and advancing inclusive policies that uplift and protect LGBTQIA+ workers across all sectors of SEIU.
