SEIU’s Henry: Tom Suozzi’s victory in NY is a win for working people across the country who will carry this momentum to polls in November

WASHINGTON, DC - Service Employee International President (SEIU) Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement following Tom Suozzi’s win in the special election in New York’s 3rd district to replace disgraced former U.S. Rep. George Santos:

“Despite a record snowstorm, working people in Long Island turned out with a message today: We will go all out to elect leaders who will back us in our fight to join together in unions, earn living wages and benefits and create a more equitable economy. Tom Suozzi has a track record in Congress of standing with us, hospital workers, building cleaners, nursing home and homecare workers, security guards, airport workers, and others of all races who went all out in this special election, knocking more than 20,000 doors. Now we are ready to take this momentum to win a pro-worker majority in the House, secure the Senate, and re-elect President Biden this November.

Tom Suozzi will be reclaiming the seat vacated by a corrupt imposter who tried to gaslight the people of Long Island while defrauding taxpayers to enrich himself. Donald Trump and the GOP have been put on notice – working people will decide this year’s election. We’ve had enough with politicians who claim to represent us but instead use their power to commit crimes, rig the rules in favor of corporations and make a mockery of our government and democracy.”
