SEIU’s Henry: Working families want House Republicans to stop playing political games, focus on nation’s priorities after passing continuing resolution

WASHINGTON, DC – Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President Mary Kay Henry released the following statement on the Continuing Resolution that will keep the government through November 17, 2023:

“After working people and families urged extremist House Republicans to back down from their radical demands, SEIU members are relieved that House Democrats were able to rally reasonable elected leaders to keep our government operating for another 45 days. However, this temporary fix can’t be an excuse for inaction. They have to stop messing with working people and stick to the deal they agreed to earlier this year. We've had enough of the political shell games.”

“Real lives are at stake right now. A government shutdown of any kind would have devastating consequences for the people who keep our government running, their families and every community across America. SEIU members and our allies demand that Speaker McCarthy stand up against extremist politics, focus on our country’s real priorities and pass funding bills that reflect our values. That includes reauthorizing the FAA to address our air travel crisis for both passengers and workers; keeping child care centers open and child care affordable for parents and families by passing the Child Care Stabilization Act; and passing the FARM bill so that food is more accessible and affordable for working families. This is a time when every member of Congress should be champions for working people regardless of where they’re from, what they look like or what they do for a living.”
