The Supreme Court rejects Alabama's defense of racial gerrymandering and safeguards the voting rights of marginalized communities.

SEIU commends the US Supreme Court's decision to reject Alabama's defense of racial gerrymandering in Allen v. Milligan. This historic ruling marks a pivotal moment in our fight for equality and justice, as it protects the fundamental right to vote for millions of marginalized people.

By ruling against Alabama, the Supreme Court has struck a powerful blow against the continued racially motivated attempts to silence communities of color. . This decision helps ensure that every person has a voice in our democracy no matter what they look like, how they vote or where they live. With this victory, it’s now time for Congress to take action to secure the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and Freedom to Vote Act.
