SEIU’s Henry: National Labor Relations Board’s ruling is an incredible victory for frontline workers

Service Employees International Union President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement in response to the National Labor Relations Board’s ruling Tuesday overturning a Trump-era rule that made it easier for employers to misclassify millions of workers as independent contractors:

"Big corporations have relentlessly exploited broken labor laws, denying women, immigrants, and workers of color their basic rights, all for the sake of profits. The misclassification of workers as independent contractors has reached epidemic proportions, especially in sectors like service, care, and gig work, exacerbating the problem. Today's ruling is an incredible victory for frontline workers who have been organizing and fighting for the right to unionize for years and gives more workers, regardless of where they live or who signs their paycheck, the ability to collectively bargain for a better workplace.”
