SEIU's Henry: Judge Jackson triumphs, heads toward Senate confirmation to make history

WASHINGTON, DC. – Service Employees International Union (SEIU) International President Mary Kay Henry released the following statement today following the Senate confirmation hearings of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson:

"Across three long days and more than 20 hours of questioning from Senators, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson demonstrated the outstanding character, temperament and equanimity that made her President Biden’s pick for the Supreme Court – and the clear choice of working people across America.

While some Republican Senators tried to make a circus of this democratic process through constant interruptions and racist and sexist lines of questioning, Judge Jackson rose above it with strength and dignity. If there was ever a doubt that her stellar qualifications made her fit for the nation’s highest court, her performance this week proves that she is more than ready – she is battle tested. On substance alone, her thoughtful answers showed that she will rule by the letter of the law, and not by political whims. And that is why she has already been confirmed by the Senate three times on a bipartisan basis and why prominent conservatives, law enforcement groups, law school professors, unions and civil rights groups alike have heartily endorsed her nomination to the Supreme Court.

SEIU’s 2 million members stand in solidarity with Judge Jackson and are celebrating her triumph in the face of adversity and ugly racist attacks. We will not tolerate delay tactics and fishing expeditions – she has been extremely transparent and her judicial record speaks for itself. Her historic ascent to the Supreme Court is breathtaking to witness and a victory for all who value equal justice, diversity and safeguarding our democratic institutions.”
