SEIU’s Henry: Dave Prouty’s Addition to NLRB a Welcome Step Towards Reversing Trump Appointees’ Attacks on Working People

WASHINGTON—Today President Biden announced the nomination of David Prouty to fill the upcoming vacancy on the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Prouty’s nomination will be subject to approval by the US Senate. SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement on the nomination.

“SEIU applauds President Biden on his nomination of David Prouty to serve as a member of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). During his distinguished 35-year legal career, Mr. Prouty has steadfastly defended the rights of working people and their unions, and currently serves as General Counsel of SEIU 32BJ, the largest union of property service workers in the United States.

The Trump-appointed corporate lawyers who comprise the majority of the NLRB board have spent the last four years attacking workers’ rights to organize and collectively bargain under the National Labor Relations Act. They have relentlessly sabotaged the Act they have sworn to administer, empowering corporate employers to run roughshod over workers’ rights with impunity. Mr. Prouty brings a lifetime of experience litigating under the Act, and his appointment is critically important to begin reversing the damage inflicted by the current majority on the board.

On behalf of the two million members of SEIU, I congratulate Mr. Prouty and urge the U.S. Senate to act swiftly on his nomination.”
