SEIU’s Henry: SEIU members send love, support to families of Las Vegas victims, all first responders

WASHINGTON—SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement on last night’s shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas:

“Our hearts are broken at news of the devastating tragedy in Las Vegas, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. SEIU’s two million members stand in support of our 18,000 members in Nevada, who include the paramedics, nurses, emergency room staff and other hospital workers who responded heroically last night and are still at work treating the wounded. Their brothers and sisters across our union stand ready to support them and their families however possible.

“The unsung acts of heroism like what we’ve seen and heard about in the past few hours are happening far too often. No one should have to live in fear that a simple night out at a concert will turn into a battle for your life. From Baltimore to Chicago to Orlando, gun violence has had a devastating impact on our nation. SEIU members renew our commitment to use every ounce of our energy to unite and fight to end this senseless gun violence. We will not rest until we have won our vision of a just society, where all work is valued and all people are respected, where all families and communities thrive, and where we leave a better and more equal world for generations to come."
