SEIU’s Henry: Fearlessness and courage of working people and SEIU members speaking out leads to Puzder withdrawal

WASHINGTON—SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement on the news Andy Puzder has withdrawn his nomination to be Secretary of Labor

“Today with Andy Puzder’s withdrawal for Labor Secretary, working people proved that when we come together and raise our voices through collective action we can win an economy and democracy that works for our families. Our families are hungry for change and fed up with and economic and political system where no matter how hard they work they cannot get ahead.

“Together, we have called out self-interested politicians and greedy corporations who take advantage of working people with their extreme agenda including Trump’s extremist cabinet nominees who want an America of the corporations, by the corporations and by the corporations. Andy Puzder was the poster child.

“If the next Labor nominee is not a champion for working people, we will continue to speak out just as forcefully and just as loudly. We’re going to stay in the streets until we get a labor secretary who can advance the interests and needs of wage earners in our economy.

“No attacks will stand in our way of mobilizing in unprecedented numbers and growing our movement nationwide. Together, SEIU members, our families and our communities will continue to stand up, speak up and rise up until we have a real say at work, in our economy and in our democracy.”
