SEIU’s Henry: Senate GOP Refusal to Consider Obama’s Supreme Court Nominee Hurts Working Families

WASHINGTON—SEIU International President Mary Kay Henry issued the following statement on the Senate GOP leadership’s decision not to hold hearings on President Obama’s nominee to fill the vacant Supreme Court seat:

“The GOP leadership in the Senate is playing politics with the lives of working moms and dads who will be affected by cases in front of the Supreme Court. The stakes for working families couldn’t be higher, from the nurses and firefighters whose ability to join together at work and have a voice in a union is at risk, to immigrant families in danger of being torn apart, to those whose hard-fought right to vote is under attack by the attempt to unravel the fundamental principal of one person one vote, to the women whose reproductive health is in jeopardy.

“It’s time for Republican leaders to stop playing politics with the Supreme Court vacancy—for the sake of working families who will be hurt by their inaction. This is the kind of extremism that we’ve seen repeatedly from Republican leaders and candidates, and we will remember in November.”
