Dingell Retirement: A True Champion for Working People

WASHINGTON, DC - After Congressman John Dingell (D-MI) announced he will retire at the end of his current term, Mary Kay Henry, President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), issued the following statement:

On behalf of SEIU's 2.1 million members, I want to congratulate Congressman John Dingell on his exemplary service to our country in the House of Representatives. During his unmatched tenure in the House, he was a true champion on the issues that matter to working families. He was a pioneer in the effort to expand access to quality, affordable healthcare, a staunch civil rights advocate and a tireless champion for working people everywhere.

"As a fellow Michigander, I know that Congressman Dingell has served his constituents with distinction - always keeping in mind the impact that the policies crafted in Washington would have on our home state. Congressman Dingell will certainly be missed, but his legacy will endure. We wish him all the best in his retirement."
