SEIU's Henry: President's Announcement Spells the End of Irresponsible Insurance Companies' Competitive Advantage" in Selling Higher Cost Plans"
Insurers Now Compelled to Provide Accurate Information to Americans Regarding Protections, Choices under the Affordable Care Act
(Washington, D.C.) - SEIU President Mary Kay Henry issued this statement today regarding the Obama administration's response to action taken by many insurance companies to cancel substandard healthcare plans:
President Obama's announcement today is a commonsense response to the concerns raised by individuals and small business owners about the need to transition securely to more affordable, comprehensive healthcare coverage. That process starts with insurance companies providing clear and accurate information about what is currently covered under these plans and how plans offered through the marketplace might not only cost less, but offer more. It certainly spells the end of less responsible insurers withholding the necessary facts to generate more profits from a captive market.
"We are relieved this fix to the law is now in place so quickly and efficiently. In stark contrast to extremist Republicans who continue to try to disguise repeal efforts as a "fix" - this is a real one. Americans are smart enough to know the difference."
