WASHINGTON, DC - As part of the continued escalation to ensure that the House passes a commonsense immigration proposal with a path to citizenship, immigration reform advocates from across the country are urging four corporations to take a stand with the majority of the American public and demand the House Republican leadership act on immigration reform.
Actions began on October 15 with reform supporters first visiting the headquarters, regional offices, local stores and branch offices of Bank of America, Domino's Pizza, Home Depot and Wells Fargo--all enormous contributors to Political Action Committees that support Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy--calling on company executives to take corporate responsibility and support immigration reform with a roadmap to citizenship.
More advocates are amplifying the pressure. In Pennsylvania yesterday, a delegation demonstrated and educated the public in branches and stores of all four corporations. More actions are taking place in Hawaii as well Washington, DC and Northern Virginia this week where Home Depot and Domino's Pizza have headquarters.
The groups, including SEIU, SEIU 32BJ, Action NC, Center for Popular Democracy, Cincinnati - Communities United for Citizenship, Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights and several more organizations, have also launched an online campaign. In engaging conversations via social media networks, a Domino's Pizza franchise owner responded to the campaign, affirming, "I own 4 Domino's Pizza stores and I support immigration reform including a path to citizenship."
The month long campaign has already garnered attention. A petition calling for support for reform that ran on Home Depot's "Let's Do This" site received over 1,200 signatures in 45 minutes. Supporters in Boston and North Carolina visited the corporate offices of Bank of America to deliver letters asking for the corporations to reveal where they stand.
Advocates will continue rallying and meeting with these enormous contributors to PACs that support Republican leaders Boehner, Cantor and McCarthy, encouraging executives to support immigration reform with a roadmap to citizenship and urge the House to vote on a commonsense proposal, just as several corporations and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have done so this year.
