SEIU Launches Spanish Web Ads in Response to Rep. King Comments

WASHINGTON, DC -ollowinga href=http://www.theatlanticwire.com/politics/2013/07/steve-king-wants-protect-border-cantaloupe-sized-calves/67512/">offensive remarksbout immigrants by Representatives Steve King (R-IA), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) today launched aa href="http://action.seiu.org/page/content/07292013/">new online campaignn seven Republican-held Congressional districts with significant Latino populations.

The six versions of the Spanish-language ad, "Otra Vez," will run as pre-roll on YouTube and highlight Representative King's comments calling DREAMers drug traffickers as well as other comments made by Republicans against immigrants. The ad calls on Republican members of Congress to support commonsense immigration reform and reject the positions of the extremists in their party.

"Demonizing immigrants with hateful comments has no place in the debate over fixing our broken immigration system," said Eliseo Medina, SEIU Secretary-Treasurer. "Latino communities need to know - do their Representatives stand on the side of extremist politicians like Steve King or will they stand with our community and support citizenship for immigrants?" Medina added, "The Republicans have a choice to make - join the majority of Americans in supporting a commonsense solution to fixing our immigration system or continue down the path set forth by the extremists in their party that will further distance them from Latino voters."

The ads will run in the districts of Representatives Gary Miller (R-CA), Howard McKeon (R-CA), Scott Tipton (R-CO), Daniel Webster (R-FL), Joe Heck (R-NV), Mark Amodei (R-NV) and Randy Weber (R-TX).

The ads are part of a SEIU multi-pronged media, field and legislative campaign to engage voters around the issue of immigration reform with a path to citizenship.

The ads can be viewedere.

"tra Vez?"

It's happened again.Once again, the debate over immigration reform has devolved to the lowest level by offensive comments and actions by extreme Republicans in Congress.

In talking about young immigrants who were brought to the United States by their parents, Republican Congressman Steve King said

KING:em>"For every one who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there who weigh 130 pounds -- and they've got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert."/p>

This is offensive and an insult to our community. It's time that Republicans choose between extremism or progress.

Where does Representative McKeon stand?Call him at77-848-8289nd tell him to reject the extremists in his party and join the majority of Americans in supporting immigration reform with a path to citizenship for our families.
