SEIU to Run Radio Ads in Illinois Criticizing Senator Kirk on Immigration Vote

WASHINGTON, DC - The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) today launched a radio advertising campaign criticizing Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL) for voting against allowing the Senate to move ahead on commonsense immigration reform. The ad, called Unacceptable," will run on Chicago-area radio stations for one week starting today.

"We want to let Senator Kirk know that his vote against commonsense immigration reform is unacceptable," said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Eliseo Medina. "In a state with one of the country's largest Latino populations, Senator Kirk is clearly not listening to his constituents. Voters in Illinois want immigration reform and they will be watching closely to see what Senator Kirk does when the bipartisan bill comes to the Senate floor."

This ad follows a week of activity by SEIU and immigration allies including vigils, demonstrations and calls to Senator Kirk's office and the release of polling that shows broad bipartisan support in Illinois for immigration reform.

You can listen to the ad here.

Announcer:

Republicans and Democrats in Congress are finally working together.

Eighty-four members of the Senate voted to move forward with a common sense approach to fix our broken immigration system.

But not Senator Mark Kirk. Despite its broad bipartisan support, Kirk voted to oppose immigration reform.

Reform that has the support of the business community, religious leaders, working families, law enforcement, and so many more.

At a time that requires leadership, Senator Kirk followed 14 of the most extreme U.S. Senators, voting against even allowing the bill to be debated.

Joining the Tea Party extremists to shutdown debate? Refusing to let Congress discuss reform?

That's disappointing, Senator Kirk.

Call Senator Kirk today at 312-886-3506. Tell him his job is to fix what's broken, not be a roadblock to reform.

Tell Senator Kirk helping the Tea Party extremists is unacceptable.
