SEIU Stands With President Obama on Commonsense Immigration Reform

WASHINGTON, DC - After attending a speech on commonsense immigration reform with President Obama this morning, Mary Kay Henry, President of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and SEIU International Secretary-Treasurer, Eliseo Medina issued the following statements:

Mary Kay Henry, SEIU International President:
I was honored to join President Obama this morning as he reaffirmed his commitment to commonsense immigration reform. As the President said, there is no reason why Congress can't pass this legislation by the end of the summer. Americans from all walks of life support reform and agree that we need to fix a system that is broken and inefficient.he time is now to pass commonsense immigration reform."

Eliseo Medina, SEIU International Secretary-Treasurer:
"The President made clear today that immigrants are an intrinsic part of our nation's character and a driving force in our economy. With this in mind, Congress should act to establish a clear path to earned citizenship for immigrants and not narrow it with unreasonable or burdensome barriers."
