CR Prevents Government Shutdown, But Fails to Stop Sequester Cuts

WASHINGTON, DC -- The following is a statement by SEIU President Mary Kay Henry regarding the Continuing Resolution passed by the House and Senate:

While Congress did the right thing in reaching an agreement to avoid a federal government shutdown, we must not lose sight of the impact of budget cuts under the sequester. The sequester will have a devastating effect on vital services. These are services that help families move out of poverty, help children to grow into healthy and productive adults, help seniors and those with disabilities live constructive lives and help strengthen the health and safety of every American.

"The harmful and unnecessary domestic cuts due to the sequester are bad for the economy, bad for workers and bad for the state and local governments who provide the vital services that millions of Americans depend on."
