After Whitman Renews Pledge to Ban Undocumented Students from College, New Ad Featuring Cesar Chavez Niece Backs Jerry Brown

New TV ad represents Cambiando California's second wave of $5 million dollar campaign

LOS ANGELES - Days after Meg Whitman renewed her pledge to ban undocumented students from college at last Saturday's debate at Fresno State University, Cambiando California, the Independent Expenditure Campaign led by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California announces its newest television ad, Chavez" featuring Dr. Christina Chavez, Grand Niece of Civil Rights Leader and Founder of the United Farm Workers, Cesar Chavez.

"The future of California's workforce is at stake in this election." says Eliseo Medina, SEIU International Secretary-Treasurer and the highest-ranking Latino labor leader in the country. "The Latino community will not be left behind because a significant amount of Latino children are banned from earning a college education. We have a clear choice... a Governor who will partner with us to find solutions to our most pressing challenges or one that will keep a significant portion of our community from succeeding."

The television ad, "Chavez" is the second installment of Cambiando California's ad campaign aimed at encouraging Latino voters to support Jerry Brown, noting that the next Governor will make decisions that will open or close doors for students and working families.

"It is now up to me and my generation to stand up for the values that helped build a path to the middle-class for a whole generation of Latinos long ago," said Dr. Christina Chavez. "Our success is not only our own, it is a result of the commitment and hard work of people like Jerry Brown and my uncle, Cesar Chavez," she added. "Jerry Brown is the only candidate who has fought for students and working families for the last 40 years," she concluded.

Cambiando California's $5 million dollar campaign is the largest ever Latino Independent Expenditure Campaign reaching generations of Latino voters through television, radio, and internet advertising, mailers, and a robust field organizing campaign that will drive Latino voters to the polls in support of Jerry Brown this November. Cambiando California addresses the issues that are most important to the Latino electorate: jobs, the economy and education.

Cambiando California is releasing the new television ad, "Chavez" today. It will begin airing on Spanish language stations in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, Fresno, Bakersfield, Monterey, Palm Springs media markets.

Text of the "Chavez" ad is as follows:

When Jerry Brown was Governor, he fought alongside my uncle Cesar Chavez to garner fair wages for workers and help open the doors for a generation of Latinos to gain access to education and be successful.

I know because I am one of them.

Now Republican Meg Whitman wants to ban undocumented students from attending college, taking away their opportunity to succeed.

That's why we need to vote for Jerry Brown for Governor -

To make sure EVERYONE has a right to a good education and better future.
