Healthcare Reform Six Months Later: A Good Day for Working Families
"Today is a good day for working families.
"Just six months ago, President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law. Since then, we have seen great progress toward fixing out healthcare system. At kitchen tables all around the country tonight, families will breathe easier knowing the "Patient's Bill of Rights" going into effect will end the worst health insurance company abuses.
"But our work is not done. Yesterday, Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna Inc. and other insurance companies threatened to stop selling child-only health insurance policies in California, Illinois, Florida, Connecticut and elsewhere.
"We knew many of these insurance companies lacked a conscience, now it's clear they have no heart.
"The insurance industry's willingness to deprive sick kids of the medical insurance they need is yet another case of corporate interests like WellPoint - Anthem's parent company - putting profits ahead of basic common decency.
"This November, the American people have a clear choice - will we allow corporate interests to run amok or will we stand up for candidates who fight for working families and their kids.
"SEIU members will be making calls and knocking doors to make sure voters know who is on their side."
