Congress Passes Made in America Promise Act

"We applaud the House of Representatives for investing our tax dollars in products made by U.S. workers."

NEW YORK
-Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives House passed the Made in America Promise Act, which requires the legislative branch to buy products made in the U.S.A. The legislation was authored by Representative Phil Hare (D-IL) and praised by Workers United, SEIU president Bruce Raynor.

"We applaud the House of Representatives for investing our tax dollars in products made by U.S. workers," Raynor said. "We're glad to have their support as Workers United fights to keep manufacturing jobs here."

Recently, Raynor and his union have successfully fought to keep two Midwest clothing manufacturers open. Earlier this year, Hugo Boss reopened a plant in Cleveland, after Workers United members mounted a campaign to keep their jobs from going overseas. Last year, the union helped save Hartmarx - which manufactures suits worn by President Obama -- from being liquidated by Wells Fargo. Thousands of jobs have been saved thanks to the union.

"American-made products help create and keep the jobs that we need to kick start the economy," Raynor said. "It's time to import more manufacturing jobs so we can get back to work."
