SEIU: House Votes to Save 300,000 American Jobs
Washington, DC - Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President Mary Kay Henry released the following statement after House Democrats sent President Obama a bill which will protect 300,000 American jobs:
Republican leaders in Congress pay lip service to jobs and the deficit. But when given the chance today to protect 300,000 American jobs and to reduce the federal deficit by $1.4 billion over 10 years, all but two House Republicans voted 'no.'
"The jobs vote shows that Republican leaders in Congress are more interested in playing politics and protecting companies that outsource than in saving American jobs."
With 2.2 million members in Canada, the United States and Puerto Rico, SEIU is the fastest-growing union in the Americas. Focused on uniting workers in healthcare, public services and property services, SEIU members are winning better wages, healthcare and more secure jobs for our communities, while uniting their strength with their counterparts around the world to help ensure that workers--not just corporations and CEOs--benefit from today's global economy.
