SEIU Members Say Today's Debate Proves Kendrick Meek Is Real Champion for Working Families in U.S. Senate Race
West Palm Beach, FL - Florida members of America's fastest-growing union, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), turned out in support of U.S. Senate candidate Congressman Kendrick Meek prior to this morning's debate hosted by the Palm Beach Post.
During the debate, Meek delivered a strong performance that underscored why SEIU, the AFL-CIO, the Alliance for Retired Americans and working families across Florida stand behind him as the only true champion for working families in the Senate race.
Meek showed a clear command of the issues, such as clear steps we can take to turn minimum wage jobs into good middle class jobs. Meek outlined a series of options available to further strengthen the long-term health of Social Security and reminded voters of his leadership on pushing for passage of comprehensive immigration reform while Jeff Greene never answered the question.
Kendrick has always been there fighting for us," said Carry Walker an SEIU member and bus driver for Palm Beach Schools. "He fired me up to make sure all of my family, friends and neighbors will fight for him. This November we'll send someone who knows our issues, one of our own, to Washington."
Greene seemed committed to reading pre-planned attack lines from his note cards on Meek and even on his mother, former-Congresswoman Carrie Meek, instead of being transparent on his tax records, investments in Big Oil and involvement in economically-destructive credit default swaps that victimized Florida families and which Warren Buffett called "financial weapons of mass destruction."
"We need someone who understands what it means to make a living and raise a family in Florida today. Kendrick has stood up for working families in the past and we know he will continue to stand up for us in the Senate," said Frank Genung, an RN at St. Mary's Hospital in Palm Beach.
