SEIU: A Clean House Should Not Put Your Family's Health At Risk
SEIU Supports Bill Requiring Ingredient Labeling for Cleaning Products
Washington, DC - Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger released the following statement regarding SEIU's support for H.R. 3057, the Household Product Labeling Act of 2009.
Said Burger, If we have the right to know about the potential side effects of our prescription drugs, we have the right to know what's in our chemical cleaning supplies. As millions of concerned parents and tens of thousands of SEIU janitors, service workers, home care providers and others can tell you, finding a cleaning product that is effective but safe is almost a mission impossible. You either need a chemical engineering degree or blind trust that many products on the market today won't harm your toddler, pet or yourself. And with flu season upon us we should not put families in a position to have to choose between a deadly virus and a deadly cleaning product.
"Congressman Israel's bill will finally give both parents and professionals the chance to know a complete and accurate list of the product's ingredients and any potential health impact keeping clean keeps us healthy. It should enjoy broad bipartisan support."
With 2.1 million members in Canada, the United States and Puerto Rico, SEIU is the fastest-growing union in the Americas. Focused on uniting workers in healthcare, public services and property services, SEIU members are winning better wages, healthcare and more secure jobs for our communities, while uniting their strength with their counterparts around the world to help ensure that workers--not just corporations and CEOs--benefit from today's global economy.
