MEDIA ADVISORY for September 10th: Nearly 300 Progressives Descend on Washington to Lobby for Employee Free Choice Act
As Congress returns, renewed push begins for major labor law reform
Sen. Harkin Headlines Kick-Off Event Thursday, 8:45 AM
Washington, DC -- On the heels of President Obama and Vice President Biden's comments Monday that the Employee Free Choice Act will pass this year, a coalition of progressives--including small business owners, faith leaders, farmers, students and veterans--will travel to Washington this week to lobby for major labor law reform. The group consists of nearly 300 activists from 15 states across the country.
An intense day of lobbying will begin after a kick-off event on Capitol Hill where members of the media will have an opportunity to meet with the various delegations that have flown to DC for this momentous day of action.
"Giving workers a check against unprecedented corporate power isn't just an issue for labor unions," said Service Employees International Union President Andy Stern. "This unprecedented coalition of activists from every walk of life gives powerful testament to the support for reforming our broken labor laws."
