SEIU Members in California Congratulate Congresswoman-Elect Judy Chu
Los Angeles - Representing 700,000 California members, the Service Employees International Union today congratulated Dr. Judy Chu on her election to United States Congress representing California's 32nd District. Citing her long record of support for California workers and their families, SEIU's California State Council endorsed Chu in January and SEIU members rallied behind her candidacy, contributing our time and energy to help her win the Democratic nomination and then the final run election yesterday.
Congresswoman-elect Judy Chu is exactly the kind of leader working Americans need in Washington," said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. "She has stood side-by-side with our members in the past and will continue to do so in Congress, working with President Obama to pass healthcare reform, the Employee Free Choice Act, comprehensive immigration reform and the other important legislation facing working families. SEIU's members are excited to get to work with Congresswoman-elect Chu to put our economy back on track, protect vital public services and rebuild the American Dream."
"As a Member of California's State Assembly and Member of the Board of Equalization, Judy Chu has always been someone California's working families can count on," said Courtni Pugh, Executive Director of SEIU California State Council. "Her support has always meant more than just words and votes. She's a dynamic leader and a woman of action, who stands up and fights for her beliefs, whether outside on a picket line with workers or inside the corridors of power."
