Washington, DC--More than 50 interfaith leaders from across the country will fly to Washington, DC tomorrow, lobbying Congress to pass the Employee Free Choice Act. The group's visit immediately follows last week's announcement of "Faith Leaders for Workplace Fairness" (www.faithforworkplacefairness.org), a coalition of more than a dozen faith organizations who have come together in support of the legislation.
Led by Rev. Sue Gaeta of Gamaliel National Clergy Caucus and Rev. Steve Copley of Interfaith Worker Justice, the group will start their day with a prayer breakfast featuring Rep. George Miller (D-CA), the original sponsor of the Employee Free Choice Act, and SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. They will then leave to lobby their individual Members of Congress before holding an 11:30 AM press conference with Senator Tom Harkin, the original sponsor of the bill in the Senate.
