Al Sharpton's National Action Network Honors SEIU President Andy Stern for Work on Civil Rights, Social/ Economic Justice and Equality

"Keepers of the Dream Awards" Pay Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
NEW YORK -- On Wednesday, April 1st, Service Employees International Union President Andy Stern will be recognized for his social and political advocacy work by Reverend Al Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN) at the 11th annual Keepers of the Dream awards.
SEIU is the nation's most progressive and fastest growing union, representing security officers, janitors, child care and home care workers, bus drivers, teachers' aides, healthcare workers and other industries heavily represented by women and people of color. Through his ongoing efforts to keep the American Dream alive for millions of working families, Stern has been a leading figure in the movement to build an economy that creates jobs and helps communities, and his efforts to pass the Employee Free Choice Act and fix our broken healthcare system are seen as the cornerstone of restoring the middle class.
George Gresham, President of 1199SEIU, will join Sharpton to present Stern's award.
Each April, the Keepers of the Dream Awards mark the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s death. The honor goes to individuals who advocate for the principles for which Dr. King gave his life and to members of the civil rights community who have committed themselves to fairness and racial harmony.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 1st, Reception- 6:00 to 7:00 PM; Dinner 7:00 p.m.-10 p.m.

This years nominees also include: Andre Harrell of Harrell Music; Larry King of Larry King Live; Esther Silver-Parker, SVP of Diversity Relations for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; Alfred Liggins, Chairman and CEO of Radio & TV One Inc.; Andy Stern, President of Service Employees International Union (SEIU); Robin Roberts of Good Morning America; Mayor Dwight Jones of Richmond, Virginia; and Maurice Cox, VP of Diversity & Inclusion Development at PepsiCo.
Actor-Comedian D.L. Hughley will host the event and legendary superstar Kathy Sledge and R&B sensation Robin Thicke are also scheduled to perform.
The Keepers of the Dream Award are held in conjunction with NAN's annual convention.
