SEIU International Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger Named to President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board
Washington, D.C.--Anna Burger, chair of the Change to Win labor federation and International Secretary-Treasurer of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), is being named by President Obama to his Economic Recovery Advisory Board in a ceremony at the White House today along with other board members.
As daily headlines scream, 'layoffs, layoffs, layoffs,' I am honored to stand today in a new partnership with a president who was elected because he does not turn a deaf ear to the hurts and hopes of working people," Burger said. "He is a president who sees members of labor unions as part of the solution too."
"The more than 4 million people who lost their jobs this past year and watched their futures go up in smoke don't need more hot air from Capitol Hill. They need fast action on jobs, healthcare, education, childcare, and unemployment."
The chair of the 6 million-member Change to Win federation and the national political strategist for the 2 million-member SEIU, Burger is the nation's highest-ranking female labor leader. She began her career as a rank-and-file Pennsylvania state caseworker.
"We already appreciate the leadership of President Obama and Vice President Biden as we work together to rebuild the American Dream, address the challenges working families face in a 21st century global economy, and create economic recovery that works for everyone--not just those at the top."
