WASHINGTON, DC - SEIU President Andy Stern issued the following statement supporting the confirmation of Representative Hilda Solis as U.S. Secretary of Labor.

As the daughter of two immigrant workers and proud union members, Hilda Solis is the embodiment of the American Dream. She will never back down from putting the American Dream back within the reach of America's workers.

"Solis is one of seven children, helped to raise her youngest siblings and was the first in her family to go to college. She's been a leading voice on environmental and labor issues in the Congress, and she will continue that commitment as Labor Secretary if she is confirmed. She understands the challenges workers face in a global economy and the need for a bold new agenda that expands healthcare for everyone and gives American workers a greater choice and a greater voice. She will lead a Labor Department that works to open doors for every American in our nation's diverse workforce.
