Wash U. Worker Tells Candidates What Her Family Needs to Hear Tonight

St. Louis, MO--As the candidates prepared for tonight's Vice-Presidential debate, hundreds of workers at Washington University were preparing the campus, setting up the stage, and after the candidates and crowd go home, standing by to clean it all up. Pat Waters is one of those workers.

Waters has been a janitor at Washington University for nearly 13 years and she knows the change working families need better than anyone.

This election is important," said Waters, a member of SEIU Local 1. "I want to hear what the next President and Vice-President are going to do to ensure we have access to quality healthcare. And with prices on everything from gas to food going up, I need to know how they'll ensure families like mine can get by."

"I know Senators Obama and Biden will bring the change my family needs," added Waters. "And I hope that Governor Palin finally takes a stand tonight for affordable health care for all and an economy that puts working families first."

More than 1,000 SEIU members have taken time off their jobs and 100,000 nurses, janitors, child care providers, and other workers will be volunteering after work and on weekends to elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden and a pro-working family majority in Congress.
