SEIU Members Launch New Ohio Ad on John McCain's Votes to Send Jobs Overseas

Cleveland, OH - Today, SEIU began airing a new $425,000 television ad, titled Meghan," that will run on cable and broadcast TV across Ohio through the end of the election. The ad highlights John McCain's record of voting for tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas through the story of one Buckeye worker.

Meghan Cofield used to be a factory worker in Dayton before her job was sent to China. Thanks to John McCain, who said, "NAFTA was a good idea" (Des Moines Register interview, 11/27/07), Meghan's former employer can receive tax benefits for exporting her job overseas.

"John McCain may talk about Joe the Plumber, but Ohio's working families are more concerned with John the Senator's votes to support George W. Bush's policies that give tax breaks to CEOs and Wall Street executives instead of hardworking Americans like Meghan Cofield," said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. "The policies of the last eight years have failed hardworking Americans, but Barack Obama believes that trade with foreign nations should strengthen the American economy and create more American jobs. He will stand firm against agreements that undermine our economic security."

The $425,000 ad is part of an ongoing effort by SEIU to highlight the devastating impact on working families of Senator McCain's and the Bush Administration's actions on jobs, health care and the economy. Produced by The New Media Firm, can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huX3yLtlM9c.
