Congresswoman Drake's Record of Voting Against Healthcare
SEIU TV Ad About Congresswoman Drake's Votes Against HealthcareFor Vets Is Just Part of the Story
Today, Virginia Congresswoman Thelma Drake held a pressconference accusing SEIU of distorting the facts about her record in a recentlyreleased televisionad.
But the Congresswoman's multiplevotes against improving the quality of healthcare available to ournation's veterans is just part of the story.
"The Congresswoman shouldcheck her own voting record," said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer AnnaBurger. "The fact is, Congresswoman Drake has consistently sidedwith the Bush-Cheney agenda of handouts for the insurance and drug companiesinstead of helping veterans and other hard-working Virginians get the quality,affordable healthcare they need."
As a Member of Congress, ThelmaDrake voted:
- Against increasing veterans' health benefits - three times;
- Against additional funding to protect servicemen and women from neglect at Walter Reed Medical Center;
- Against health coverage for more than 18,000 Virginia children;
- Against legislation to make prescription drugs more affordable for Virginia seniors; and
- Against legislation that would have helped small business owners provide health insurance to their workers at an affordable price.
"It's no surprise thatCongresswoman Drake doesn't want voters to know her record, but the factscouldn't be more clear," said Burger.
"Honor"is currently airing on broadcast and cable television throughout Virginia's SecondCongressional District. It can also be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOlRWHc02LI.
