Hundreds To Rally For Healthcare During Democratic National Convention
Feature Celeb Emcees Chuck D and Jim Hightower, Musical Performances from DeVotchKa, And Ben Gibbard, Chris Walla
DENVER, CO-Hundreds of healthcare workers, delegates, advocates and working families from Colorado and across the country will gather in a park just steps from the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, August 27, to rally for a real solution to the nation's healthcare crisis.
The "Rally to Fix Healthcare NOW"will feature celebrity emcees Chuck D and Jim Hightower, stories from healthcare workers, educators and consumers struggling to keep up with the rising cost of care, a health clinic, and art exhibitions, as well as musical performances from Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie and Denver's own DeVotchKa.
The rally is hosted by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Healthcare United, Health Care for America Now (HCAN), the National Education Association (NEA), Colorado for Health Care, Families USA, the American Medical Student Association (AMSA), and Jobs With Justice.
Wednesday's rally is just one of over a half-dozen Convention events - including a primetime speech on Tuesday by Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger - where SEIU will highlight the concerns of millions of working men and women who are struggling to make ends meet. As both a host committee member and an official convention sponsor, SEIU will make sure that delegates and candidates understand that justice for all means quality, affordable health care for every man, woman and child in America, economic fairness, and freedom at work for all working families. An updated daily schedule and related materials will be available at www.seiu.org.
