Barack Obama Acceptance Speech Offers Agenda Putting Working Families First

SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger issued the following statement following Senator Barack Obama's acceptance speech in Denver:

"Tonight, Senator Obama offered a vision for America that puts the needs of working people front and center.

"It's an America that rewards work and ensures every family has access to affordable healthcare. It's an America where all children receive a decent education and families have quality public services they can rely on. And it's an America that ensures the next generation will always be better off.

"His speech was a stark reminder of the stakes this election and why SEIU members are engaged in the largest and most aggressive campaign ever to elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden and a pro-working family Congress.

"Whether it was SEIU delegates talking to other delegates on the floor, or Pauline Beck addressing the Convention about the day Obama spent working on the job with her, or SEIU members and healthcare voters discussing the need for healthcare for all, SEIU members succeeded in keeping the focus of the Convention on the issues that matter to working families.

"And when we leave Denver, SEIU members will be on the doors, on the phones, and on the airwaves to ensure their neighbors and co-workers elect Barack Obama and Joe Biden in November."

"
