About the Labor Day festival

On the eve of the Republican National Convention, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU)-representing 2 million working people-will sponsor a festival to celebrate workers' achievements and to promote a New Vision for the 21st Century that includes:

    *      Affordable, quality healthcare for everyone;

    *      Wages that can support families;

    *      Freedom to join unions without intimidation;

    *      Retirement security.

In addition to the Labor Day concert, the festival will include a You Tube station, a fully equipped blogger lounge, a children's area, and a large audience-participation art project.

This fall, working people in America have the opportunity of a lifetime to change our country and create an America that works for everyone.

About the performers

    *      Steve Earle's Washington Square Serenade in late 2007 earned him his second Grammy Award. He hosts the Sirius Satellite Radio program Hardcore Troubadour Radio, and he was recently featured in the HBO series The Wire.

    *      Allison Moorer is an Academy Award and Grammy Award nominated singer songwriter whose 2008 album, Mockingbird, was released to critical acclaim.

    *      Tom Morello recently launched The Justice Tour, a nationwide concert tour that dedicated at each stop a rock concert to benefit a local charity. In Chicago, Morello earned the respect and appreciation of working people all over as he spent the day walking in the shoes"of an SEIU child care provider. He appears with Bruce Springsteen on a new live EP performing "Ghost of Tom Joad." His solo album, The Fabled City, will be released this September.

The Labor Day concert and festival will mark the end of a three-state Labor Day Tour from August 29-31 that will offer journalists three days of interviews and discussions with SEIU members and leaders from across the US and at stops along the way.
