Amy Dacey Named New Government Relations Director for SEIU
WASHINGTON, DC-The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) today announced that it has named Amy Dacey as Government Relations Director for the nation's fastest growing union.
There are very few people who can boast both Amy's skills and her experience,"said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. "From the states to the Hill, from her work with influential policy groups to her time on the campaign trail, Amy has consistently proven herself as both a strategic thinker and a leader. She is a clear asset for any organization interested in getting work done, and as we move forward to advance a progressive policy agenda in this country, Amy's talents will be put to great use."
As Government Relations Director, Dacey will oversee federal legislation, build SEIU's federal executive branch policy program in anticipation of the Obama administration, and work with governors, mayors and other federal, state and local intergovernmental organizations.
Amy joined SEIU in 2007, working as an advisor to Burger, working with organizations such as the Democracy Alliance and Change to Win. Most recently, Dacey served as the Executive Director for the Fund for America.
Previously, Dacey served as Senator John Kerry's Traveling Political Director on his 2004 presidential campaign. At the end of that race, Dacey assumed the role of National Political Director for the senator's Keeping America's Promise PAC, a national grassroots organization dedicated to bringing change to America by supporting Democratic candidates at every level of government. Keeping America's Promise raised and distributed over $14 million to more than 260 candidates and party committees in the '06 election cycle.
Dacey's prior political and legislative experience includes work as Deputy Political Director for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), State Legislative Program Director for EMILY's List, Deputy Political Director at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), and Deputy Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Louis Slaughter (D-NY).
Dacey received her Master's degree in Political Science from the American University in Washington, DC, and her Bachelor's degree in Political Science and History from the State University of New York at Binghamton, NY.
