OBAMA STANDS WITH SEIU MEMBERS FOR CHANGE AT CONVENTION

PHILADELPHIA, PA--In a speech today at the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO's 38th Constitutional Convention, Senator Barack Obama laid out a plan to help working families and put us on a clear path to creating a new American Dream. From ending the war in Iraq to strengthening the ability of workers to organize and turning around the economic slowdown, Obama will deliver the change America needs.

It's time for real change in America, and that's why SEIU members have enthusiastically endorsed Barack Obama for president,"said SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. "He has walked a day in our shoes and knows what challenges our members face. We are proud to be working hard across the Keystone State on his behalf."

Burger, a Levittown native, joined SEIU President Andy Stern and SEIU Pennsylvania State Council President Eileen Connelly to introduce Obama to the convention in Philadelphia today. Connelly also serves as the Vice President of the AFL-CIO PA State Federation.

Senator Obama has a long history of helping working families including:

organizing neighborhoods hit hard by plant closings in Chicago and helping workers find new jobs

sponsoring legislation that brought hundreds of thousands of working Illinoisans health care coverage

bringing collective bargaining rights to over 25,000 homecare workers who had been denied these rights for more than 20 years

cosponsoring Employee Free Choice Act legislation

proposing a health care plan that will cover every American

SEIU's 75,000 members across Pennsylvania are reaching out to their communities to support Barack Obama in the April 22 Democratic primary.
