SEIU Members Help Turn Out the Vote in Important Foster Win in Illinois

Washington, D.C. - SEIU members and working families across Illinois are celebrating Bill Foster's win in Saturday's special election in the 14th congressional district.  With more than 5,000 members in the district, SEIU engaged in an extensive voter mobilization effort in support of Foster. In addition to knocking on thousands of doors and making thousands of calls, more than 100 SEIU members volunteered on Election Day, providing critical help in the contest.

"We need our representatives in Congress to fix health care and make sure our kids have a better future.  That's why our members committed their time and energy to making a difference in this campaign,"said Tom Balanoff, SEIU Illinois State Council President and President of SEIU Local 1.

"From the state house to the White House, SEIU members are doing more than ever before to elect candidates who, like Bill Foster, will stand up for working families,"said Anna Burger, Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU.

SEIU ran an aggressive media campaign along with the door-to-door activities by workers, including a $200,000 TV ad on the candidates' positions on health care.  The ad is part of a national election-year effort to elect a new President and Congress committed to fixing America's health care system.
