SEIU Releases Detailed Comparison of Presidential Candidates on Health Care
Americans for Health Care in IA, NH, NV and SC to Distribute to Thousands of Health Care Voters in Advance of Primary
Washington, DC-With less than a month to go before voters participate in the first-in-the-nation caucuses and primary, SEIU's Americans for Health Care campaign has released a detailed comparison of the health care plans of the Democratic and Republican candidates for president. The comparison provides information on how each of the plans addresses four key principles for health care reform advocated by SEIU, including whether the plan achieves universal coverage, and if it allows for a choice of physicians.Health Care Voters in the early states will be getting together at house parties and caucus workshops in their states to review the comparison. They will also engage in direct questioning of candidates on the campaign trail. Already, Health Care Voters have pressed the candidates to explain whether their plans would leave out those they say they would cover.
While we don't believe there's only one way to solve the health care crisis, voters need to know that there's a fundamental difference between the Democratic and Republican candidates on health care,"said Anna Burger, Secretary-Treasurer of SEIU. "Most of the Democratic candidates have plans to ensure that every man, woman and child in this country has health care, and none of the Republican candidates do. Voters should ask them why they haven't put forward real solutions to this issue."
Americans for Health Care has been working since 2003 to identify and mobilize "Health Care Voters"who agree to make health care their number one issue when voting for candidates. Health Care Voters have been attending presidential candidate events throughout the 2008 campaign to highlight America's health care crisis and ask candidates their plans for ensuring affordable coverage for all Americans.
